Residents of Ngomlac village, Omor parish, Lira Palwo sub-county in Agago district were shocked in the morning, 21st April 2022, after discovering one of their residents that went missing nearly 14 days hanged himself to death in Pukor sub-county, Pader district over alleged gender-based violence.
The deceased has been identified as Tito Okello, 40, a resident of Ngomlac village, Lira Palwo sub-county in Agago district.
Geoffrey Oweka, the LC 3 chairperson of Lira palwo sub-county, said that Okello wrote and left a letter on 7th April 2022 before hanging himself on allegations of mistreatment and misunderstanding with his wife, leading to his disappearance.
According to family members, the deceased was angry but never told them about the tragedy he went through.
Oweka further urged locals to report their grievances to the police or local leaders rather than taking their own lives, and cultural leaders to actively participate in handling matters of their people before it is late.
Oweka added that information was sent to Lira palwo sub-county police post to intervene and remove the body, but only to their dismay to be told there is no fuel.
