Angry Residents in Pader district have Tuesday, 12th July 2022 stormed district police headquarters over the release of two suspects (staff of Country site harvesters) who were accused of extorting over Shs. 500 million in names of providing ox-plough and two oxen to the locals.
The arrested and released suspects are Mr. Solomon Okello (CEO of the CSH) and Mr. Jamil Derick Oryema, the district coordinator.
The angry locals reacted bitterly as they expressed their grievances with the police fraternity, and accused them of boycotting corruption in the country. The released suspects extorted Shs. 566million from 783 peasant farmers, each contributing Shs. 724,000 for the said items.
Mr. Charles Komakech, the district councilor for Pajule sub-county accused the regional police in Gulu city of abetting the theft of Shs. 566million following the release of the suspects. He added that they have petitioned the Resident district commissioner (RDC) to follow up on the matter.
Mr. Abraham Tukundane, the Pader district police commander appreciated the locals by saying that they were right to complain about the release of the suspects. However, he advised the angry people to show their discontent to the regional office, and desist from taking laws into their hands.
Meanwhile, Mr. Milton Odongo, the Pader RDC acknowledged the petition written by the leaders of the 9 affected sub-counties and town councils and said that the days gone were enough for the Regional Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to sort out the matter.
He added that justice delayed is justice denied.
