Pader: Leaders Threaten to Spend Revenues at Source Over Failed Remittance by the District

The Pader district lower government leaders have 1st November 2022 threatened to spend the locally raised revenues at the source since the district has failed to remit the required share of the revenue to the respective sub-counties.

Mr. Dickson Ojok, the district councilor for Angagura sub-county while deliberating threatened to advise leaders at his sub-county to spend at source since there is no remittance despite being the sub-county with the highest revenues in the district.

Ojok stated that his sub-county raised local revenues amounting to Shs. 40million but to his dismay, only Shs. 15 million was remitted instead of Shs. 26million.

Recently, Mr. Fearless Kilama Wod-Acholi, the Pader town council urban chairperson echoed that they will not collect tax if the remittance isn't made as the constitution says. According to him, the funds that have not been remitted amount to Shs. 15 million, hence affecting service delivery.

However, Mr. Alex Chelimo, the Pader CAO, while responding to the threats confirmed that the remittance of Angagura sub-county was not full due to pressing demands for the district.

"Part of the money was used to facilitate the council's activities. I urged leaders to avoid spending at the source," Chelimo said.
