Several leaders and beneficiaries of Acholi war debt claimants are referring to the government compensation program as a political tool that other leaders use during the campaign period and later dispose of when an election is over.
Ladur Terencio, 78, a resident of Pader town council says that the compensation project of the Acholi war-affected people has become a political arena. He adds that they were told to open an account, and did so, then after that some little to no quarter of the total amount of money was given to them with others missing out.
Ocer John Chris Mugisha, Ajan sub-county councillor V says that the government must be open in exercising the project so as the affected people benefit from it. He adds that the majority of the beneficiaries may even die since most of them are ageing and too old.
According to Mugisha, following RDC’s word alleged to have been spoken by the deputy attorney general, leadership change can not affect the project since official handover is done when handing over office to another person. He adds that the top leadership must learn to be true and report facts rather than exaggerating things for political influence.

Dusman Okee, Resident district commissioner says that the deputy attorney general has said that because of the new leadership, new cabinet, and the failure of the parliament to sit, every activity was paused towards the end of the financial year.
Okee adds that he was told that another 20 people will be added to the current team as there are issues with ghost names in the list of beneficiaries.
