The Agago deputy district resident commissioner has today, 16th urged locals to remain calm during a show on one of the radios in Pader district following the recent outcry on the red tape involved in the compensation of the livestock to the affected victims in Acholi.

Cosmas James Okidi, the deputy resident district commissioner for Agago admitted while giving his side of the story that there is a delay in the compensation of the livestock.

He added that there are over 1,300 beneficiaries who have registered fully and await compensation, but over 1,700 are yet to be cleared.

According to Okidi, the Agago district chief administrative officer, Gunya Stephen Oloya said that the list of the remaining 1,700 people will be worked on within one week by 12th April 2022 since it has been submitted to the office of the attorney general.

However, Santa Okot, the Deputy Secretary-General for the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) who doubles as the Aruu North Member of Parliament in Pader district criticized the former leaders of the Acholi war debt claimants over the withdrawal of the compensation case from court.

She added that the current government does not handle negotiations humanly as they ought to be.

Okot added that people should register for the compensation despite the delays and frustration met by the locals. She added that the remaining groups that were not registered will be handled in the next compensation or launch fresh complaints.

Each head of cattle lost will be compensated one million to the Acholi war debt claimants.
