Electoral Commission to Kickstart Payment of Parish Tribunal Members in Pader

A number of parish tribunal members in Pader district are to be paid within the next one month for the work done during the election period for 2021 with each getting 75,000/= from the Ugandan electoral commission, Pader district branch office.

Sam Okello, one of the parish tribunals and a resident of Puranga sub-county, in Pader district says that they were supposed to get a pay amounting to 75,000/= per person but they didn’t receive the money since promised in April 2021. He adds that other people were paid through mobile money but the rest of the people who did not have registered lines in their names failed to get their money.

A person who works with the electoral commission under anonymity says that it’s true that these people were not paid to date since they worked for the electoral commission. He adds that these people are five in number in each parish, and the commission decided to pay them through mobile money.

He further adds that the majority of the workers missed their pay since the phone they were using was not registered in names and most of them were elders aged 50 and above.

However, Pader district returning officer, Dennis Robert Ebong Opeto says they have received the money from the Uganda Electoral Commission for the payment of the members who worked as a tribunal in 2020. He adds that those who will be paid are the people who did not get their pay either their money bounced back or never gotten their pay.

According to Ebong, this payment will be made from the electoral commission branch office in Pader, and those who have got payment must not come unless you have evidence to show you worked and was not paid.

He further adds that if the person to receive the payment has passed on, the immediate beneficiary must accompany with the local council one letter, national Identity or voter's location slip to access the money, and this payment is with the next one month only.
