Locals in Pader district who encroach on government lands and practices deforestation have been warned by the relevant authorities to desist from it as they risk being caught by the long arm of the law.
This includes people who are clearing swamps for settlement, using unwanted methods of fishing, cutting down trees indiscriminately without replacing them, and among many activities that the government prohibits.
Acting Pader district police commander, Enock Musime made the communication as reports indicate that deforestation and swamps are on the increase. He adds that such activities are harmful to environmental living things.
Enock further warned the people who are involved in the destruction of the environment that once got will be apprehended and charged in the court of law.

Pader district forest officer, Okello Martine says that there is a slight increase in the level of tree cutting but not among the protected species like Shea-nut tree, mango trees and others. He adds that areas that have an increase in tree cutting include Lapul, Angagura and Latanya sub-county.
Martine adds that they are soon launching attacks to find out the culprits and they are currently counting all the protected tree species like Shea-nut.
