One of the dams in Agago district being inspected by the IGG
Residents in Geregere has called for the revamping of the dam project found in their sub-county as it’s deteriorating to the level that can’t help in household works.
Vincent Okidi, chairperson of Geregere village, Geregere sub-county in Agago district has called upon the district leaders to intervene and improve the status of the dam. He adds that since the dam was constructed in the early 1950s, it has not been renovated to suit people’s needs.
However, Omot sub-county chairperson, Edward Okwir rejected the channel of complaint chosen by the village chairperson and says that whenever raising concerns one must seek a clear channel other than going anyhow. He adds that the dam project was delayed because of the covid-19 outbreak.
Edward adds that he will consult with the area members of Parliament to see that the project is resumed.
Meanwhile, Tonny Awany, Nwoya county member of parliament says that following the consultation with the permanent secretary ministry of water, the dam was found to have been designed for animals’ water places. He adds that this calls for redesigning the dam to suit the wants of the locals in Geregere village found in the Agago district.
Awany further added that when the plan is brought the dam project work will start following the public outcry about water scarcity in the area.
