Gulu district has continued to register low vaccination coverage despite the communication from the health ministry that seeks to vaccinate the majority of Ugandans against the deadly disease with elders at only 9% and health workers at 53% respectively.
This was revealed on 15th June 2022 during a stakeholders meeting held at the community board room in Gulu city.
The purpose of the meeting was to plan the rollout of demand creation activities for the mass vaccination, find solutions for emerging issues and reflect on the progress of the other health-related activities in the community.
The Gulu district deputy resident commissioner, Mr. Cosmas James Okidi said that the Acholi subregion has not been doing well because of poor mobilization, and misconceptions about vaccines.
He added that some of the leaders boycotted the program of vaccination against Covid-19, and warned that it must be stopped.
The Gulu district RDC Mr. Charles Ichogor pledged to begin working with lower local government leaders to mobilize heavily so that locals embrace the vaccination and are vaccinated against the covid-19.
He encouraged the general public to embrace COVID-19 vaccination and observed SOPs as the best way of dealing with the Pandemic.
We are ready to deal with those spreading propaganda, misconception, among others towards the vaccines, they will regret when netted", RDC lamented.
The meeting resolved to use mobilization strategies such as drama groups, radio, and village mobilizers including lower local government leaders.
