Lira-Kato health centre III in Agago district has been closed after testing two of its workers positive for covid-19 this week.
It's reported that these health workers whose names were not revealed work in the outpatient department (OPD) ward hence, prompting the InCharge to close the health facility leaving only the maternity ward.
The closure of the health centre came shortly after other health workers allegedly claimed that they are all contacts of the two infected people diagnosed positive with covid-19. This made the health centre bring to a standstill all of its activities.
Alexander Okidi, chairperson district health committee, and a councillor V for Lira-Kato sub-county says it was wrong for the InCharge to close the entire health facility as only two health workers were tested positive. According to him, almost 90% of the health centre is now closed since the OPD is the most attended department at the health centre.
Alexander said that there are several health centres that reported cases of infections among health workers but did not close, and they should be re-open so that the locals can get proper health care services.
Meanwhile, Iraku Drajea Hellen, Agago district health officer, says that a team will be sent to carry out testing among the health workers of Lira-Kato health centre III and those with negative results will return to work.
