Agago district. Teenage Pregnancy. 13th July 2021
Leaders in Agago district has warned youths to desist from engaging in harmful activities which may lead to pregnancies as there is a reported increase in the number of cases of pregnancies among the youths during the lockdown.
Margaret, a resident of Obolokome village, Agengo sub-county in Agago district says there is a rampant increase in cases of teenage pregnancies in the district since all the students are at home. She further urges the government to come out with a plan to solve the condition that the youths are going through.
Akello Beatrice Akori, a woman member of parliament for Agago district says, it’s very unfortunate that over 700 teenage pregnancies were reported last year only in Agago district. She urges all the youths to be patient with their life and be focused other than practising adultery.
Meanwhile, Lagen David Atuka, a member of parliament for Agago county says that parents should learn to teach their children to stop sexual activities that lead to pregnancies in order for them to realize their dreams. He continued and said that whoever engages in such adultery while still young suffers a lot.
According to the news report from Kampala International University, over 4,000 teenage pregnancies registered in Northern Uganda during COVID-19 lockdown with Lamwo district emerges top with 1,000 cases, Pader with 920, Agago 730, Nwoya 642, Amuru 620 and Gulu 150. Bigger numbers being registered from Kitgum and Omoro.
