Locals and leaders of vast areas affected by the nodding syndrome have angrily expressed disappointment with the statement given by the delegated person on behalf of the district health officer after saying that the improvements and reduction in numbers of the people who are suffering from nodding syndrome.
Dominic, one of the health workers delegated by the district health officer made a statement that there are improvements, no new cases and there is a reduction in the number of children living with the nodding syndrome since the government began hard work towards the disease by spraying the river belt where the tsetse fly lives. He added that the only difficult part that the government faces now is curing the affected person to return to normal.
Ida Acayo, a resident of Angagura B village, Angagura sub-county says that she is disappointed with the statement given by the DHO’s delegated person. She adds that the statement is not true because there are no improvements, and continued by saying that she has a child who is worse off because of the nodding syndrome.
Acayo further urges the government to show concern over the disease that is taking lives and increasing the rate of poverty in the region by providing shelter and food for the affected families since there is no work, they do except looking after the affected children.
Dickson Ojok, councillor V Angagura sub-county says that the reports moving around that there is a reduction and improvements in numbers of the children affected by nodding syndrome is false. He added that these children are dying day and night that why their numbers are decreasing.
Dickson further urges the government to take into consideration the lives of the innocent souls that are being lost to a deadly and complicated disease.
