By, Kinyera Anthony Lakomekec, Abim district, Friday, 11th February 2022. Locals in Abim district have on Wednesday, 9th February 2022, filed a petition through their lawyer demanding Pader and Abim Community Multipurpose Electric Cooperative Society Limited-(PACMECS) to rectify their poor service delivery in the district.

In their petition signed by 40 locals, the community stated that they want all the damaged poles, broken cables fixed, and they must waive off all the service fees for the period of three months of which power was not there from the consumers.

A local from Abim district and among the petitioners known as George Owilli Douglas said that the letter is addressed to the chairperson of PACMECS highlighting what their petition clearly wants. Owilli said that failure to comply with the demands stated in the petition from the locals, will make them prefer forceful eviction of all the staff of PACMECS working in Abim district.

According to Owilli, upon arrival at that office, they didn't find the chairperson but was welcomed by Phillip Ocaya, PACMECS’ engineer who later apologized and promised that the errors will be immediately rectified including; availing transformers to Abim SSS, replacing weak poles, among others.

Chairperson board of directors for PACMECS, Simon Odoch said that he didn’t know that letter addressed to him was a petition. He says that the power outages in that particular area was not intended but due to lack of loader to carry poles to replaced, among others.

Odoch further adds that they are having a meeting with the affected people so that they sort out the power outage issue. Abim district chairperson, Rt. Capt. Yoventine Omara before assuming office stated in a meeting held last year in Abim district that they had opted together with the outgone district chairperson to change company that supplies Abim with power citing poor service delivery. Omara re-echoed about the devastating effects of PACEMCS’ power on the business community.
