Locals in the greater east Acholi has slapped corruption scandals against the local defence unit's recruitment processes that have just ended because the majority of the applicants did not get their names on the list but rather different names that they alleged not to be from locals.
A lady only known as Irine, a resident of Kwonkic, Lamiyo sub-county in Agago district claims that most of the names that were displayed at the Achol-pii army barracks were not names from the region. She further asked the relevant authorities to answer the query as to why the locals didn’t appear.
Meanwhile, Michael Oketa, a resident of Wol town council in Agago district who was among the applicants says that he is very upset about the names that came back. He adds that these breath signs of corruption eating up the forces during the recruitment time, and it wastes people's time trying to apply yet in turn their attempts become futile.
According to Michael, an applicant’s name may be available from the district data but when you go to Achol-pii army barracks, the names are different.
Emmanuel Okware, Pader district resident commissioner rejected the allegations given by the locals on issues of corruption and said that he does not have the evidence about the false name in his district. he adds that the people who applied for the work are the shortlisted ones.
In response to Agago incidence, he said that it might be the people whose names talked about are residents of the district who were verified by their authorities and authorized that they were eligible for the recruitment exercise.
However, Okware added that if there is evidence of such to have happened, people should share it with their office to find out what happened that led to the tragedy.
