Locusts-Like Insects Invade Kilak in Pader District, Locals Worried


Locals in Kilak Corner in Pader sub-county, Pader district are worried following the invasion of an alleged locust that has covered most of the plantation for weeks as they are spotted feeding greens which makes it scary and calls for intervention from district officials.


Odong George, a resident of Ongany parish, Pader district says that there are locusts which are in a large swamp but young ones feeding in the area coming for nearly a week. He adds that this is so harmful that calls for immediate intervention from the district to spray it because locusts can cause famine in an area, they are feeding in.


However, Okwir C Ray, area councilor V for Pader sub-county says that he received the information on the alleged presence of the locusts in Kilak. He adds that he is not sure if the alleged insect is really locusts, hence calling for further investigation from experts to ascertain whether the insects are locusts or not.

In August, Uganda experienced four Desert Locust swarms. The first swarm arrived on 12 August from Turkana County in Kenya, entered Uganda through Napak district and landed in Ngoleriet Sub- County and Kangole Trading Center.
