LRA War in Agago district.
Locals in Agago district have called upon the government to compensate people who were affected by the loss of their relatives during the tragedy that happened way back in the early 2000s where several people were killed (cooked in pots) by the lord resistance army rebels.
This call comes during the launch of village saving and credit in Agago district by their area member of parliament.
Francis Oyet, a resident of Geregere village who claims that he was affected by the massacre says that they have suffered setbacks towards their development as their breadwinners were killed intentionally by the rebels under government watch.
Oyet adds that, besides the promise about the institute made by the government, they still call for more compensation which includes reliefs given to each affected family.
Maria Omara, councilor representing women of Geregere sub-county in the council of Agago district says that the government must ensure that the affected locals are compensated.
She adds that this will be elevated and rehabilitate the affected areas as well.
Omara adds that the leadership of the Acholi parliamentarians' group should intervene and add efforts to the lower local leaders in pursuing the demands of their electorate following the massacre.
In a response to the above, Tonny Awany, Nwoya county member of parliament and a member of the presidential affairs committee says that pledges have been made to the government of Uganda about the tragedy that took place in Agago, Geregere sub-county.
Awany adds that the government will eventually look into the matter after going through the pledges they had made through the committee of the presidential affairs.
He further adds that the promises made about the institute to be made in memory of the lives lost during the massacre will also be followed so that the institute is constructed.
