Northern Uganda Resilience Initiatives (NURI) has cleared half of the wages owed amounting to 36 million shillings to locals in Lira-Palwo sub-county for the completion of work which began in May this year.
Caroline Lamunu Barbra, a resident of Lapete village, Lapete parish in Lira Palwo sub-county, Agago district says that NURI has cleared their wages worked for. She added there was no complaint of underpayment during the payment.
A total of 240 people in the 8 groups under the roadworks were paid each person 150,000 shillings amounting to 36 million shillings.
Geoffrey Oweka, Chairperson Lira Palwo sub-county confirmed the payment made by NURI for the work people did base on the agreement. He adds that there is one group that did not receive their payment because of late work done.
According to Oweka, the group that received payment was the road sector and the woodlot is yet to be paid their money amounting to 36 million. He added that the payment will be made late because the supplier of the tree seedlings cannot supply the seedlings as the weather was not friendly.
