Former Aruu legislature, Odonga Otto has condemned the Members of Acholi Parliamentary Group (APG) who have shown interest to run for speakership just after the Rt. Hon. Jacob L'Okori Oulanyah passed on 20th March 2022 from Seatle in the United States following an undisclosed illness.
This condemnation comes along with criticism from locals in Pader and Agago district who are also boycotting the move by their parliamentarians to replace the former speaker of the 11th parliament, Oulanyah.
Sections of locals have called out the Acholi leaders who showed interest to contest for speakership to withdraw and mourn the death of their colleague instead of laughing.
Charles Okee, a resident of Alwee village, Acuru parish, Agengo sub-county in Agago district said that he is frustrated about the law that provides for speaker election before the burial of the deceased. He added that burial arrangements should be done before the election to show respect to the deceased and the bereaved family.
Irene Alanyo, a resident of Pader town council in Pader district said that it is absurd to hear about the Acholi MPs vying for speakership position after the demise of Oulanyah. She added that they should give room for the body to be buried and continue with their selfless interests.
Odonga Otto, a former Member of Parliament for Aruu South constituency has called out the Acholi parliamentarians' group (APG) to boycott the speakership election by withdrawing their names from the race. He added that this does not only shame Acholi but also shows a lack of respect for the deceased.
Otto further urges the APG to be assertive and do the needed things during these hard times that the Acholi people seek refuge in them.
