Over 70% of teaching and non-teaching staff have so far been reported to be vaccinated in Pader district.
Justine Ocen, Pader district secretary of health who doubles as the vice-chairperson says that the latest report indicates that 78% of the total number of teachers and non-teaching staff have received the covid jab.
According to him, health departments’ statistics has indicated that a total of 638 teachers including non-teaching staff have been vaccinated against the deadly virus out of a total number of teachers targetted being 810 in the whole district.
Earlier on, the government came out with mandatory covid-19 vaccination for all teachers as a top priority as means of reopening the schools in the country.
Anna Apiyo, Acting district health officer for Pader, says that the massive turnout of teachers for the vaccination process is attributed to the prioritization of the vaccination to the education sector, majorly the teachers and other related staff.
Apiyo added that all the health facilities in the district including all health centre IVs and IIIs are carrying out the vaccination processes.
