Pader District Suffers Setbacks in Tax Collection

Pader district is facing challenges of tax collection as the projected tax outcome has failed in the last financial year of 2020/2021 by realizing only 51% of the total 680million shillings.

Last financial year, Pader district projected a sum of 680 million that could have been realized if all the tax avenues were exploited well. But, to their dismay, only 346 million was realized at the end of the financial year.

Pader district vice chairperson, Justine Ocen says that there are other sources of tax that the district tax focal people are not taxing of which really impacts on the totals of the tax. He adds that there are also elements of laziness and corruption among the tax collectors too since they tend to embezzle the funds collected.

According to Justine, there are other district workers who are also occupying the district building without paying rent yet they are subjected to rental payments except for the chief administrative officer and district chairperson as agreed by the council.

Justine further pointed out the ways they will adopt to redress the challenges affecting the tax collection through instituting checkpoints, payments of tax in banks, among others.
