The majority of the village health teams (VHTs) in Pader have yesterday, 23rd June 2022, laid down their tools over no, or poor payments amidst the covid-19 vaccination resumption as stated by the ministry of the health recently.
Some of the VHTs working in Pukor sub-county threatened, and said that their payments for the past campaigns were not, or paid poorly causing them to lay down their tools.
One VHT who preferred anonymity said that in the last campaign other VHTs received only Shs. 25,000 instead of receiving Shs. 60,000. He added that mobilization was not done since the village chairpersons were not included in the campaign.
Mr. Richard Ojwini, the Pukor sub-county chairperson confirmed notice of laying down tools by the VHTs and said that some of the VHTs were not paid to date, and others paid half.
According to Ojwini, the district team should clarify the issues before late because the VHTs are the immediate health workers that can easily be reached in the community.
