Residents in Pajule sub-county are in a panic as a suspected stray lion is believed to have escaped from Kidepo Valley National Park and killed a sheep on Sunday, 17th from Atipi village, Otok parish, Pajule sub-county in Pader district.
Gino Ongom, 65, a resident of Atipi village in Pajule whose sheep was killed said that he came out at around 1 pm only to see the lion grabbing his sheep from their dent. He added that the lion made away with the sheep to a nearby bush as he went back inside for fear of his life.
Alfonse Lukilamoi Omona, The Pajule Sub County LC 3 Chairperson said he was informed by Ongom in the night that people are living in fear because the lions are still within the community posing danger to them and their animals.
He added that speedy action by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) to drive away the lion should be taken away as early as possible.
Samuel Amanya, the Kidepo valley national park chief warden urged the locals to be aware of the suspected lion as they send in their teams who are responsible for handling lions to handle the matter reported immediately.
