Public Workers Risk Job Dismissal Failure to Declare Assets and Liability Status – IGG

Government workers who tend to dodge the operations of the inspectorate of government in regards to assets and liability declaration risk being dismissed or fined by the Uganda leadership code tribunal in line with the leadership code Act.

This activity is said to have been signed by the Ugandan president, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa and it began effective on 7th May 2021. The declaration is an activity that the inspectorate of government (IG) does to check corruption in society.

Odong Bennard, a resident of Laperebong sub-county in Agago district asked why there is such activity yet there is rampant corruption in the country.

According to Mr James Penywii Onying who is the director of Project Monitoring of Inspectorate of Government, this activity is a law signed by the president and there is no option. He added that anybody who will fail to declare his or her assets and liability status will face the leadership code tribunal to hear the case.

Penywii further adds that a victim of the above circumstances may face a fine or dismissal from the government work varying on the magnitude and the excuses presented to the court. He thereby said that the dateline for those who began work on 7th May 2021 is on 7th August 2021, a period of 3 months from the date of appointment.
