Suspected Karimojong warriors shot one hunter dead yesterday, 18th June 2022 in Lamica village, Layita parish, Omiya pacwa sub-county in Agago district when the hunter went to check on his metal trap in a nearby bush.
The deceased has been identified as Derrick Okema, 19, a resident of Lamija village in Agago district.
Mr. Quinto Ojok, the uncle of the deceased confirmed the death and said that Okema was shot when he went to check on his trap in the bush. He added that on finding that the animal has escaped, the deceased decided to follow the foot marks and met his death a few distances from the trap set point after he was shot by the armed Karimojong men.
Ojok added that the incident happened at around 5:00 pm on Saturday, 18th June 2022, and the body was retrieved today, Sunday in the morning awaiting burial.
Recently, Leonard Ojok Opio, the Agago district chairperson said Karimojong warriors are using the loopholes as the border is uncontrollable by the army because of little manpower.
Opio urged the government to strengthen the bordering security by adding more armed men since the level of torture by the Karimojong warriors is increasing daily.
