Pader district youth’s day celebration which should be on the 12th of August every year remains in suspense following financial setbacks faced by the district youth council as the whole world joins hands to celebrate the day invented by the United Nations.
International youth day celebration was initiated in 2000 by the United Nations whereby the General Assembly endorsed the declaration on the promotion among the youth of the ideals of peace, mutual respect and understanding between people.
Quinto Ojok, Pader District Youth Chairperson says that they have decided to suspend the celebration because the council does not have the finances to carry out the celebration as designated to be on the 12th of August every year. He adds that the day for the celebration will be communicated later after when they have realized some capital for the occasion.
Quinto further laments that the theme for this year’s celebration is, “Transforming food systems; Youth innovations for Human and planetary health.” He adds that the youth must be innovative in their work though there are challenges of finances and proper inductions whenever there are government projects for youth.
