Chief justice of Uganda Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo has promised to intervene and put a stoppage in the increasing level of defilement and teenage marriage that has impacted negatively on the livelihood of locals in Acholi sub-region.
Chief Justice Owiny-Dollo made the remarks on Sunday afternoon during a dinner meeting organized by Te-kworo Foundation and Pader district local government from Te-kworo girl’s secondary school hall.
During his communication, the chief justice said he will address an official letter to all Acholi district chairpersons, Resident district commissioners, and others seeking the arrest of defilement suspects.
Meanwhile, Wod-Acholi Fearless Kilama, urban chairperson III for Pader town council appreciated the steps preferred by the chief justice once put into action. He further castigates police upon the release of suspected defilers.
Last week, 25 suspects were arraigned before Pader Chief magistrate Joy Nambozo in Pader to answer charges of defilement.
Aswa region has recorded 748 cases of defilement according to the police crime report of 2020 and ranked 6th position out of 10 regions in Uganda with the leading being East Kyoga 913 cases.
