the letter written by the court
A total of eight negotiators were frustrated on Wednesday, 13th July 2022 after the district state attorney failed to show up for mediation despite receiving a letter from the magistrate court.
The frustrated negotiators include; Mr. Omony Ogaba (former State Minister of education in charge of sports), Lloyd Baker Ochola (Rtd Anglican Bishop Kitgum diocese), and cultural leaders such as; Rwot Kacimiro Ongom and Rwot John Lugai, Anglican Bishop Kitara Wilson of Kitgum diocese.
Others are; Mr. Edwin Yakobo Komakech (former LC V Pader), Mr. Vincent M. Okidi (former Pader district service commission chairperson), and Monsignor Matthew Odong, the vicar general of Gulu Archdiocese.
The Anglican Bishop Kitara Wilson of Kitgum diocese, who doubles as the chief mediator said that they responded to the request by the court in a letter written by his worship, Mr. Edward Akankwasa Kabayo, the acting Grade one magistrate. Lloyd Baker Ochola (Rtd Anglican Bishop Kitgum diocese) said that they were frustrated by the absence of the state attorney who forms part of the other party. He added that the court has no issue with the mediation, but only wants a minute to show the mediation result. The negotiators were reported accepted by both the 33 accused persons and the accuser (state attorney) to mediate the chaos that led to the arrest of 33 suspects who were accused of vandalizing properties and organizing unlawful gatherings in December 2021.
