Karimojong Warriors Kill One, Steal Over 60 Goats in Agago



Locals in Paimol sub-county, Agago district are mourning the death of a man killed on Tuesday, 22nd at around 12:45 am by armed Karimojong warriors when they raided over 60 goats.


Gino Oriyo, in his early 40s, a resident of Labedongany village, Laimutu parish in Paimol sub-county Agago district was killed when he reported following the Karimojong warriors after when his goats were raided on Tuesday night.


Oriyo was reported to have been shot to death using a gun by one of the armed Karimojong warriors in an armed bushed.


Ronald Odoch, a resident of Labedongany village, Laimutu parish in Paimol sub-county Agago district said that life has become hell for the neighboring locals to Karamoja regions. He added that these warriors dodge the deployed soldiers by using a different route to attack and raid locals.


Kayanza Yamokolo Zanziba, councilor V for Laimutu town council in Agago district claimed that over 60 to 80 goats were raided by the Karimojong warriors that got Oriyo killed. He said that locals are sleeping indoors with their animals for fear of theft by the Karimojong.

Leonard Ojok Opio, Agago district chairperson confirmed the killing of Oriyo and said Karimojong warriors are using the loopholes as the border is uncontrollable by the army because of little manpower.


Opio further urged the government to strengthen the bordering security by adding more armed men since the level of torture by the Karimojong warriors is increasing daily. He, however, stated that 40 goats were immediately recovered with the help of the UPDF soldiers.
