Locals living in Pader and Agago districts have today, 21st June 2022 expressed their disappointment with the government for its failure to increase the teacher’s salaries as an earlier promise while spending unnecessarily on other sectors.
Many locals who expressed disappointment said that it wasn’t right for the government to give deaf ears to the cry of the teachers despite several promises made.
One of the locals known as Bosco, a resident of Lamiyo sub-county in Agago district said that the government is wasting money on army recruitment instead of sorting teachers. He added that there are civil servants who are more well-paid than the teachers who are earning a peanut.
Meanwhile, Okidi, a resident of Latanya sub-county in Pader district expressed his anger by saying that the government does not want to hear the locals' side of the story. He added that the government should adopt a method of payment for a specific period of time.
Recently, H.E President Museveni Kaguta said that the government shall pay everybody well but they should first concentrate on one aspect instead of telling him about this industrial action
However, Mr. Filbert Baguma, the Unatu secretary-general, in an interview with the media, said that they will continue with the strike because their meeting with the President did not yield any fruit.
