Pader district leaders have called for financial support from residents to support the family of former speaker of Parliament, Late Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah during their planning meeting held at the district council hall on Tuesday, 22nd March.
The meeting was called by the district chairperson and attended by different stakeholders including; non-governmental organizations, chairperson Pader district National resistance movement, district civil servants, among others.
Fearless Obwoya Oyat, Pader district chairperson who chaired the planning meeting said that the meeting is basically to organize for the sendoff of the late Oulanyah. He added that the death of Oulanyah is painful to the entire community of Acholi and Uganda as a country.
Ataro Olula, Pader district National resistance movement chairperson condoled with the people during the planning meeting by saying that the late Oulanyah was a friendly and jolly person that the country has lost. He added that locals should remain calm, organize as a team from Pader for a descend sendoff Oulanyah.
Oulanyah was an agricultural economist, and lawyer who served as deputy speaker between 2006 and 2016 under Rebecca Kadaga before defeating her on 24 May 2021 to become Speaker of the 11th Parliament.
His death was announced by President Yoweri Museveni on Sunday, 20th March at 1:07 pm through his official Twitter account where he only served for 9 months and 24 days in his position.
