14 People Left Homeless After a Hut Was Torched at Lanyinyiri, Agago District



Fourteen House members were this morning left in chocked after an unknown arsonist torched down their hut with all the items destroyed in Lanyinyiri parish in Agago district.


Okot Peter Oola, councilor III Lanyinyiri parish confirmed the incident saying that the house belonging to one, Martine Ocan was burnt down with all the properties inside. He urged all the well-wishers to intervene and help the victim with the necessities.


Meanwhile, Ocan, the owner of the burnt hut said that he woke up at around 3 am and saw his hut burning to ashes without removing all the items. He said that the hut belongs to his late sister who passed on a week ago.


According to Ocan, he is left with 14 people to carter for, as one of the huts harboring one of his families was torched down including 2 bags that contain clothing, 2 beds, and a water container among others.


Geoffrey Oweka, Lira palwo sub-county chairperson condemned the tragedy that happened by saying that he was frustrated and really call on locals to be vigilant about their own assets. He added that Patongo police have already been informed and an investigation will kick off to ascertain the cause.
