2 Men Remanded in Prison for Alleged Burglary, Theft in Pader District

Pader District Grade One Magistrates’ Court in Atanga Town council on Thursday remanded two men, Wanene Fred Toolit, and Ivan Watum, in Kineni Prisons for alleged burglary and theft.

The Magistrate, Mr. Kirumba Atwooki, ordered that Toolit, 22, and Watum, 21, should be kept behind bars, due to the magnitude of their offense.

Toolit pleaded not guilty, but Watum accepted being guilty with denial of stealing other items on the charge sheet, and are both facing a two count-charge of burglary and theft.

The State Prosecutor, Patrick Ojara, told the court that the accused person committed the offenses separately with Toolit on January 25, 2022, at Gwengkoro village, Ogole parish in Pajule, Pader district and Watum on December, 30, 2021 at Central Ward A, Acholibur town council in Pader district.

He said Watum conspired to break into the apartment of one Francis Ouma and stole eight phones, television set, among others totaling to Ugx. 1.5 million plus a cash of Ugx. 150,000 and cart away some valuables before he was apprehended and brought to court.

Toolit, however, stole a phone and cash of Ugx. 50,000 that belongs to one, Jenneth Atimango.

The State prosecutor said the accused persons, Watum and Toolit are charged with the offense of aggravated robbery contrary to sections 285 and 286(2) of the Penal Code Act.

Meanwhile, the accused persons did not have sureties to be granted court bail in liberal terms.

The Grade one magistrate, however, overruled the bail application on the ground that the defendants did not have their sureties, and he further remanded the duo in Kineni prison found in Pader district with hearing date on March 8th, 2022.
