Over 40 people were left homeless after a heavy storm destroyed gardens of plantations and houses in Pajule town council, Pader district on Monday, 18th April 2022 at around 4 to 5 pm.
According to John Bosco Odong, an eyewitness, the damage occurred on Monday evening during a heavy downpour which was accompanied by strong winds at around 4:00 PM and lasted for half an hour blowing off the roof of more than 40 houses.
Philip Bongomin, a businessman who operates a computer center says that his business was destroyed after the heavy storm blew off the roof of his building. He added that he didn’t calculate the loss he was trying to gather his properties to ascertain the magnitude of the damages caused.
Brilliant Okello Tito, the Pajule town council chairperson confirmed the incident that leftover 4o homeless and said that the storm destroyed electricity grid lines, gardens of plantations, and buildings among others.
He added that four people were admitted to Pajule health center IV after sustaining serious injuries.
Irene Adong, a mother of the three children who all sustained injuries were reported to have been critically injured when the wall of their building collapsed during the heavy downpour.
Okello said that properties destroyed will be summed up as they gather relevant data and compile a formal report specifying the damages caused so that it is presented to higher authorities such as the district Disaster Preparedness and Management committee, and well-wishers among others for help.
