In Pakwach district, Police are investigating an incident of murder where two siblings were murdered by the mob over allegations of practicing witchcraft on 11th of March 2022 when they were seriously beaten by clan members.
The deceased are Aoyo Santolina female adult 65years, resident of Pajalo West Village, Pumit Parish, Wadelai Subcounty, Pakwach district who died on spot at the scene where they were beaten on the night of 11th March 2022, meanwhile, her elder brother Onegalith Visensio resident of the same area died today in the early morning hours of 14th March 2022 after being admitted in Pakwach Health center IV.
Alfred Ongom, a resident of Pabelo village, Pakwinyo parish, Wadelai Subcounty reported the incident to Wadelai police post in Pakwach district.
Ongom stated alleges that on the fateful day of 11th March 2022 between 1 pm and 5 pm a clan leader called Jokpe William of Pumit Parish, Wadelai Subcounty, Pakwach district organized a clan meeting at Padei North Villag following statements from the LC1 chairman of Pajalo West village, Oscar Olely alleging that his wife Akumu has been bewitched by the two murdered siblings.
The two deceased were picked by clan members and beaten seriously until Aoyo died on spot meanwhile the brother who was rushed by police to Pakwach health center IV died on 14th, Monday, March 2022 early morning hours.
SP Angucia Josephine, West Nile police spokesperson confirmed the tragedy by saying that a case of murder had been preferred and the deceased body was taken to the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.
Angucia added that three suspects so far have been arrested to assist with investigations as others are still at large, these are Ipoldo Ojok, Hammed Opoka, and Jokpe William 88years who is the clan Chief, all residents of Pumit Parish, Wadelai Subcounty, Pakwach district.
"They are being detained at Pakwach Police Station as inquiries continue under Pakwach CRB 094/2022 murder case," Angucia added.
According to Angucia, police observe that it has been a common practice of people of Pakwach, Nebbi, and Zombo districts for the mob to take the law into their hands to murder people suspected to be practicing witchcraft in their areas.
She further added that Police are warning locals against mob action based on witchcraft believes as such do not lead to development in the area, and whoever participates in a mob to kill will be arrested and prosecuted before courts of law for murder.
