Pader district grade magistrate court has on Wednesday, 9th of March 2022 remanded a boy age 16 to 6 months over theft of goat in children’s remand home, Gulu.

The accused whose name has been withheld told the court that they stole the goat with one of his friends to sell it but were caught trying to sell it. He further pleaded guilty and asked the court to give him lenient punishment as he wants to resume his studies.

State prosecutor told the court presided over by Mr. Kirumba Atwooki that the accused with a friend called Francis Ojok on 8th December 2021 at about 1 pm went to Kilak police station to sell the stole goat, but upon thorough interrogation, the accused along with his friend could explain well leading to their arrest.

The accused was remanded to a children’s remand home in Gulu on 25th November 2021.

The state prosecutor further added that theft is rampant and thus depriving the rights of the owners of the stolen items. He asked the court to give appropriate sentences to the accused.

David Okech, Pader district Probation officer said the court should give the accused a lenient sentence by attributing the theft to effects of covid-19 that made hundreds idle including the accused who resorted to stealing.

Mr. Atwooki in his ruling stated that the accused is convicted on his plea of being guilty.

Atwooki further sentenced the accused to 6 months of remand including 4 months spent in remand from 25th November 2021 with a hearing set on 7th, April 2022.
