Two herdsmen have yesterday, 5th March 2022 were murdered in Lamwo district at noon while grazing their cattle by alleged south Sudanese warriors using bows and arrows.
The two herdsmen identified as Joseph Okello aged 48yrs and Denish Oroma aged 38 are all residents of Oryang Cell, Lukee Ward, Madiopei town Council.
Edward Okeny, a witness stated that on 5/03/2022 at around 1300hrs, the two deceased persons had gone to graze 108 heads of cattle in the bush at Lawiye Odung Village, where they were allegedly attacked by South Sudanese Warriors using bows and arrows, pangas, and knives killing them instantly before fleeing the scene to South Sudan side with the stolen animals.
ASP David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson said that a case of murder has been registered under Vide SD REF, 09/5/3/2022, and a team of detectives at Madiopei Police Station in Lamwo District is investigating circumstances surrounding the murder of the duo.
Mudong added that the sister forces of the Uganda People's Defence Forces from Banabana detach in are still tracking the culprits in an attempt to recover the stolen animals meanwhile the Police also visited the scene, documented, recovered 2 bows and arrows, 3 pangas, and one knife used in the attacks, recorded statements from relevant s witnesses and evacuated the bodies to Madiopei Health Center IV pending a postmortem.
According to reports from Mudong, this is not the first-time herdsmen from within the Madiopei border with South Sudan are attacked similarly. He added that locals/herdsmen should desist from grazing their cattle in isolated grazing ground that exposes them to soft targets from the cattle rustlers.
